Three surgeons from South Dakota have given a cut of their salaries to local baseball and softball.
Dr. Jesse Kampshoff, Dr. Ryan Garry and Dr. Luke Serck of Yankton, SD recently gave $100,000 to help fix and build baseball and softball diamonds in the area.
$75,000 went towards turf at the Sertoma baseball fields and $25,000 went to improvements at the fields north of Yankton High School for the Yankton Girls Softball Association.
The surgeons said the donation is intended as an investment in both the fields, which are in bad shape, and the area youth.
Major Leaguers Host Camp in Reno
Nevada’s big leaguers are bringing baseball to Reno’s youth.
Darrell Rasner (formerly of the Yankees, Nationals), Steve Lerud (formerly of the Nationals, Phillies), Chris Aguila (formerly of the Pirates, Marlins), and current Rangers catcher Chris Giminez were at the Nevada Baseball Factory for a recent youth clinic.
The group, which has over 50 years of baseball experience, take pride in their Northern Nevada roots, and held the clinic in hopes of seeing another wave of MLBers from the area.
